Newbury's Lakeland store to close in January
Another store is to close its doors in Newbury.
Lakeland, which sells cookware, will shut its store in Parkway Shopping in the new year.
The company said it was a "difficult decision" and added that it had suffered since the Covid pandemic.
A spokesperson for Lakeland said: "The coronavirus pandemic accelerated a shift in consumer spending habits, and the past few years have sadly seen a vast reduction in the profitability of our Newbury store.
"Having explored all options available, and in accordance with the terms of its lease, Lakeland has taken the difficult decision to close its store in Newbury from 20th January 2023."
Other national retailers, Jack Wills and Joules, will both also have permanently closed their stores in Parkway by the end of this month.
Earlier today we also reported how the Save the Children charity shop on Cheap Street will also shut after Christmas.
However, Danish lifestyle store Søstrene Grene moved to the town at the end of November.
There were long queues outside when it opened its doors for the first time on November 25, in Parkway Shopping centre.
It is situated in the former Topshop unit and its introduction to the town meant that – for a short time – all of the units in Middle Street were occupied.
