Lambourn boy (8) hailed a hero

Melanie Morgan-Matthews suffers from multiple sclerosis and has occasional balance problems as a result.
Around 4pm on Tuesday, she stumbled in the family home in Beales Farm Road, Lambourn, fell heavily and was unable to move or get up.
Eight-year-old Thomas, who had just returned from lessons at Lambourn Primary School, didn’t hesitate.
His father Chris said: “This was a particularly bad fall but he did everything exactly right.”
After calling the emergency services, Thomas rang his father, who was at work in Oxford, and told him what had happened, so he could arrange for Thomas’ grandmother to come and take care of him.
Mrs Morgan-Matthews was taken to Great Western Hospital, Swindon where she was kept in for tests and observation, but was back home the following day.
Thomas said: “When Mummy fell I dialled 999 and told them what had happened and where we lived.
“Then I got some pillows for Mummy and put them under her head.”
After ensuring that his mother was comfortable, Thomas then went outside the front door so he could direct the paramedics to the right home.
Mr Morgan-Matthews added: “We’re very proud of him. He didn’t panic and calmly dialled 999.
He carefully explained exactly what had happened and directed paramedics to the door before calling me.”
