Lambourn couple in court over truant child
Clive and Elaine Swift, of The Granthams, did not attend the hearing before Newbury magistrates on Thursday, October 23.
They each admitted, in writing, one charge of failing to ensure the child attended John O’Gaunt School in Hungerford regularly between April 22 and July 23 this year.
Alex Kirk, prosecuting on behalf of the education authority, West Berkshire Council, offered to outline the facts of the case.
But presiding magistrate Ian Martin said he and his colleagues were unwilling to proceed to sentence in the absence of the defendants, and without any knowledge as to their financial means.
The case was adjourned and Mr and Mrs Swift will be ordered to attend the next hearing.
