Lambourn jockey's Grand National drama
LAMBOURN jockey, Tony McCoy was involved in a drama before the start of today's (Sat) Grand National, which saw the start delayed.
Champion jump jockey, McCoy, was tipped off his mount, Synchronised, as they made their way to the start, and watched as his loose horse bolted, making its way the wrong way down the course, before being caught by a photographer.
McCoy, who was kicked by the horse as he fell, was seen afterwards holding his elbow, but was then re-united with Synchronised and after medical and veterinary checks, horse and rider made their way back to the start.
After two false starts, the race finally got underway after a delay of some ten minutes.
Synchronised then fell at Bechers Brook, the sixth fence at the Aintree course.
Local hopes were then riding high on Lambourn trainer, Nicky Henderson's Shakalakaboomboom, which was among the leaders during the early part of the race, but fell back.
A photo finish - the race's closest ever - showed Neptune Collonges to be the winner - by a very short head- just snatching the title from Sunnyhillboy, placed second.
It was later confirmed that Synchronised had been humanely destroyed.
