Lambourn stable hand who brought village to standstill was three times over limit

Police, fire and paramedics were called to the scene around 6.12pm on Sunday, August 18 this year as 50-year-old Andrew Dale Glozier of The Old Station Yard, Lambourn, was airlifted to hospital by the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance after his scooter was in collision with a transit van.
Helen Waite, prosecuting, told the court last Thursday, October 24: “The collision happened at the junction of Parsonage Lane and Baydon Road - it was a nasty incident requiring the attendance of the air ambulance.
“Mr Glozier was airlifted to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.”
Once his life was deemed out of danger, the court heard, police administered tests which showed 230mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system.
The legal limit is 80mg.
Ms Waite told the court: “He said he was riding home from the Malt Shovel pub in Upper Lambourn and told officers: ‘The last thing I remember is taking the first ‘S’ bend by the British Legion and then waking up in hospital.’”
Mr Glozier admitted driving after drinking more than the legal limit.
A probation officer told the court that father-of-two Mr Glozier, a stable hand whose wife works at a local Tesco store, was a once-a-month “binge drinker” rather than an alcoholic, and that he was embarrassed because his “stupidity” had necessitated the attendance of police, paramedics, firefighters and the air ambulance.
Jennifer Riddell, defending, said: “Although the emergency services were called, my client was the only person injured. He is nevertheless aware that this was a serious incident and this is a serious offence.”
Magistrates retired for 15 minutes to consider what sentence to impose.
When they returned, they banned Mr Glozier from driving for 24 months and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
Mr Glozier was also made subject to a 42-day community order with curfew.
Under the terms of the curfew, which will be enforced by an electronic tag, Mr Glozier must stay at home between 8pm and 5.30am until the order expires.
