Last chance to comment on Burghfield planning appeal
West Berkshire Council refused Gladman Developments Ltd application to build up to 210 homes on agricultural land on two copses either side of Mans Hill earlier this year.
Council planners said that developing beyond the natural boundary would result in unacceptable harm to the rural landscape character of this part of Burghfield Common and Mans Hill and the intrinsic character and beauty of the countryside south-east of Burghfield Common.
They added that the proposed development and vehicular access points would also result in the loss of local landscape features.
Residents lodged 269 letters of objection with the planning department, saying the existing village infrastructure would not be able to cope with the development.
The influx of traffic was also a cause for concern.
In its reasons for going to appeal, Gladman Developments says that the development will bring significant benefits to Burghfield Common, including affordable housing, which the district needs to meet its housing supply demands.
