Welsh recording artist Jodie Marie takes a detour to Newbury

Welsh recording artist Jodie Marie will be playing a very special, intimate show next Saturday (November 25) at ACE Space, with backing vocalists singing three-part harmonies.

Jodie’s music was described in The Independent as “light-blues and jazz-folk-edge recalling late-1960s singer-songwriters such as Carole King".

This gig was arranged at unusually short notice when a fan of Jodie Marie, and ACE Space supporter, noticed she would be passing Newbury between gigs.

Jodie was happy to detour to Newbury and the ACE Space team were delighted to have the opportunity to host such a superb musician.

Jodie, on piano, guitar and lead vocals, will be joined by vocalists Rona MacGregor (Rona Mac), Daisy Borthwick (Daisy B) & Eline Brun (I See Rivers) providing three-part harmony backing vocals.

Jodie Marie was signed to Decca Records in 2010, writing with former Suede guitarist/producer Bernard Butler and singer songwriter Ed Harcourt.

Her debut album, Mountain Echo, was released in 2011 to much critical acclaim. Further albums appeared in 2015, Trouble In Mind, and 2021, The Answer.

Her latest release, ‘Polar Night’ (May 2023 - Carmel Records - Caru Music Ltd), was inspired by her time spending just over three weeks above the Arctic Circle in January 2023, isolated in a cabin on a remote island, surrounded by the beautiful landscape, extreme weather conditions and stories of the indigenous Sámi people.

As this is a late addition to the ACE Space schedule, it will either be an acoustic performance in the bar or amplified in the main hall, depending upon number of tickets purchased. Either way it will be an intimate gig.

Doors open 7:30pm for an 8pm start.

Tickets are £15 and available from www.WeGotTickets.com or direct by contacting events@acespace.org.uk or 078911 76940.
