'Late for work' – Speeding M4 motorists' excuses to Thames Valley Police after being pulled over
Police officers hear all kinds of excuses when stopping speeding drivers: not knowing they were speeding, a medical emergency, or even needing to use the bathroom.
Now, one local policing account has shared some of the reasons given by motorists who were pulled over on the M4 after being clocked at over 90mph.
Posting on Facebook, XRT63 of the Thames Valley road policing unit said it had stopped four speeding drivers on the M4 while travelling in an unmarked police vehicle yesterday (Sunday) morning.
It said: “One said he was late for work being clocked at 91mph.
“Another said they were overtaking at 93mph (they weren’t) and by all accounts that’s allowed, according to them.
“A third was saying they were late for being on television after being caught doing 99mph, and the last one whose left leg was resting on the dashboard was clocked doing 94mph.
“We really do get to see some sights and hear some explanations.”
It added that three of the drivers would be getting points on their licence and a fine, whilst the other would “be having a trip to court to explain to the judge why they were effectively trying to take off!”
