Launch of Kingsclere's Rodney Lawrence Trust raises £12,000

The mother of the three-year-old, Marie Lawrence, said that she was over the moon at the response to the launch of the Rodney Lawrence Trust, which took place on the Holding Field in the village, which attracted hundreds of people.
“It was a huge success. We thought with the weather people wouldn’t turn up, but there was a steady flow and the field was full,” said Mrs Lawrence. “Everyone had a really good time.”
A gigantic tent, shaped like an Indian tepee, was used as a marquee and proved a talking point, and visitors afterwards congratulated Mrs Lawrence for her work.
“It really brought the village together, people were coming up and saying how well-organised it was, and that we should do it every year,” she said.
Food, drinks and entertainment included a barbecue, bar, bouncy castle, laser quest, enjoy a train ride, take part in a clown workshop and meet Peppa Pig and Bob the Builder characters.
Further fun was to be had on a jungle bus, laser dome, gigantic slide, jungle assault course, bungee run and games such as beat the goalie.
The day’s events were followed by an evening of entertainment by stand-up comedian Chris Billington.
The trust fund in Rodney Lawrence’s memory aims to help young people achieve their goals, source play equipment for local groups and help children and families faced with life-threatening conditions.
Mrs Lawrence said that, following the launch, the trust was ready to receive applications for funding.

The next fundraiser for the trust is an evening of clairvoyance, starting at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 19, at Kingsclere’s Fieldgate Centre. Costs are to be finalised, but are likely to be around £10, including supper.
