Lavish new look for Elcot Park
The 18th century building, former home of the great poet Percy Bysshe Shelley’s family, is undergoing a lavish and extensive refurbishment.
Phase one of the renovation was unveiled at the ceremony on Friday.
Newbury MP Richard Benyon cut a ribbon to reveal the new look to the hotel’s public spaces and restaurant, plus the creation of a new facility called the Percy Shelley Suite, designed specifically for people looking for a unique wedding or event venue.
The Mercure Newbury Elcot Park Hotel will create 12 new jobs as a result of an extensive £300,000 investment, to transform the four star hotel’s public spaces and restaurant.
The new roles will be in departments across the business. Commenting on the job creation, hotel general manager, Mehmet Kandemir said: “The Elcot Park Hotel has played a central role in the community for many years and we are delighted that our continued investment into the hotel will result in the creation of 12 new jobs, many of which we hope to go to local residents.
“It’s an exciting time for everyone at the hotel and we are pleased to be able to grow the team and develop more careers in hospitality – a rewarding and dynamic industry.”
