LED lights and new signs proposed at two entrances to Parkway

The plans, submitted by Parkway developer Standard Life Investments (SLI), are part of an overall enhancement to make both the Marsh Lane and East Street entrances into the development “more effective and attractive, mark the entrances to Parkway clearer and draw more visitors into the centre”.
SLI says Parkway is currently “somewhat hidden behind the traditional facades of the smaller retail units that front on to the main street”.
The developer is proposing to remove the existing fingerpost by the entrance to Marsh Lane – by Jack of Newbury’s house – and lay new paving complete with 36 solar LED lighting bricks, as shown in the picture.
It wants to lay another 32 solar LED bricks at the entrance to East Street and also erect a two-metre by one-metre Parkway sign above Ernest Jones on Northbrook Street to point visitors towards the centre.
The applicant says that the lights will help draw attention to the entrance to the development and “add interest at dusk and during evening environment enhancing the development to leisure users”.
Standard Life has come under fire from West Berkshire Council over its delay in appointing a social housing provider to manage the 37 affordable units at the Parkway Living Complex – see page 4 of this week's Newbury Weekly News for the full story.
