Trump’s win is one of serious concern says Newbury MP
Newbury MP Lee Dillon’s immediate reaction to Donald Trump’s win in the US Presidential election is one of serious concern.
He has called this “a dark day for people around the globe” and highlighted the fears shared by millions of Americans.
For the UK, he warns of the risks Trump poses to international cooperation, particularly with NATO and the EU, as well as to economic stability due to Trump’s history of trade conflicts.
Mr Dillon has reiterated the need for unwavering support for Ukraine, stating that if the US withdraws aid, Europe must step up.
To Ukrainians in Newbury and Berkshire, he conveys solidarity and urges the UK Government to immediately seize Russian assets and direct them towards Ukraine’s relief efforts.
His message is one of resilience and support in the face of this potential shift in US foreign policy.
Mr Dillon recognises the challenges posed by Trump’s presidency but believes criticism should be strategic.
He stresses that while critical of Trump’s stance, the UK will still need to collaborate on common security and trade interests, emphasising that our response must be both firm and cooperative to ensure the UK’s best interests are safeguarded.
