Legend Tom Jones whips up a storm in Newbury
Enduring pop icon Tom Jones thrills thousands at Newbury Racecourse
IT'S not unusual to see tens of thousands of people at Newbury Racecourse but there was one particular reason so many went along yesterday (Saturday).
Veteren performer, musical legend and the target of countless thrown knickers, Tom Jones put on a show for the Ladies Day masses and had the venue bouncing with some of his greatest hits.
Ending one of Newbury's most significant dates in its summer racing calendar, the Welsh singer took centre stage to belt out favorites such as 'Kiss', 'Sex Bomb', 'Green Green Grass', 'It's Not Unusual', and, of course, 'Delilah'.
Stephen Higgins, the managing drector of Newbury Racecourse said he was thrilled with the turnout of an estimated 22,000 people.
He added: "Ladies Day is traditionally one of our largest racedays and we have welcomed new and regular racegoers through the gates to experience a great day of sport along with a world class performance from Tom Jones."
