Newbury British Legion treats ex-servicemen to exciting day out at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire
The Newbury British Legion treated a small group of ex-servicemen to an exciting day out last week.
The group of 11 – from across the Armed Forces – met at the Newbury British Legion, in Pelican Lane, on Thursday morning (June 22), ready for an exciting day ahead.
A coach then arrived to take the troop and their carers for a trip to see Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire — an 18th century palace notable as the birthplace and ancestral home of former British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill.
“It all went very well indeed,” said Newbury RBL welfare officer, David Glover, who served nine years in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy.
He continued: “We had a light lunch in the Marlborough Room, which was excellent. It was really good.”
All of the ex-servicemen enjoyed the rare opportunity to get out and see the splendid grounds.
Speaking about organising similar future events, Mr Glover added: “We hope to do something else, but maybe not a trip.
“We can use the handybus. I'd like to take some of them to the Poppy Factory in London, where remembrance wreaths are made.”
