Kennet Leisure Centre to get makeover in Thatcham next month
A renovation project is due to start at Kennet Leisure Centre in Thatcham next month.
The revamp is part of West Berkshire Council’s programme to fund improvements at leisure facilities across the district, which previously included the Northcroft Lido and Northcroft Leisure Centre, which will be completed early next year.
Work is also underway on a new modular exercise studio at Hungerford Leisure Centre.
The upgrades in Thatcham will include new equipment and flooring in the gym and modernised studios, squash courts and an indoor cycling room.
Everyone Active manages Kennet Leisure Centre on behalf of WBC.
Contract manager at Everyone Active Richard May said: “These improvements mark a significant leap forward for Kennet Leisure Centre.
“With exciting plans to renovate and refresh the facilities, we look forward to seeing the local community take full advantage of their local leisure centre and use it as an opportunity to keep active.”
West Berkshire’s executive member for culture, leisure, sport and countryside Nigel Foot (Lib Dem, Newbury Clay Hill), added: “This is great news. We’re committed to building on these improvements and to increasing access to sport and physical activity in West Berkshire.
“This refurbishment project will bring major improvements to Kennet Leisure Centre’s health and fitness offering, achieving our goal of providing great facilities for people of all ages and abilities.”
The gym will be closed for two weeks from Monday, December 2. Members can use the gym facilities at the Northcroft Leisure Centre during this period.
Everyone Active has planned for this work to take place with minimal disruption to classes.
The gym and studio upgrades are due to be completed by mid-December.
The final phase of the project refurbishing the squash courts will begin in January.
