Lessons learnt from Christmas Market
The leader of Newbury Town Council has said that “valuable lessons have been learned” after the damage caused to Victoria Park by the Christmas market.
The Winter Wonderland market in the weeks leading up to Christmas was enjoyed by many visitors, but presented a number of issues, before, during and after the event had finished.
The council’s services manager has been working closely with the market organiser to clear up the mess left behind and to put right the damage caused by the people and cars.
At a meeting on Monday, council leader Julian Swift-Hook said: “The worst of the damage has been rectified now, and the residue from the animals has been removed, but there are still some outstanding issues that we are working on.
“We have learned some valuable lessons through this event, particularly around making sure that appropriate contractual agreements are secured in advance, and that adequate contingencies are in place to deal with what happens when things don’t go according to plan.”
