Prestigious orchestra opens the two-week Newbury Spring Festival tonight (Saturday)

The Philharmonia Orchestra opens the 33rd Newbury Spring Festival at St Nicolas' Church tonight (Saturday), while over at the Corn Exchange jazz/rhythm and bluesman Georgie Fame plays a different beat. The two-week programme presents international performers of the highest quality, from the Vienna Piano Trio to the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra, joined by some of the most important UK ensembles, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Schubert Ensemble and Fretwork among them. Emerging young artists feature in the lunchtime recital series and there are jazz, world music, talks, and masterclasses on offer in a number of venues in and around Newbury.
