Let there be light in Hungerford

Time to get festive as Christmas lights are switched on this evening

NORWEGIAN ambassador to the UK, Kim Traavik, will switch on Hungerford's Christmas lights this evening (Saturday).

He accepted an invitation from town mayor Martin Crane, who wrote to him following the shooting tragedy in Oslo.

Mr Crane got in touch after taking advice from predecessors include Jack Williams and Gwynneth Bullock.

Mr Crane also spoke to Ron Tarry, who was mayor at the time of Hungerford's own tragedy.

Mr Crane said: “It seemed appropriate to demonstrate that, although the memory lingers, towns that have undergone such a tragedy can nevertheless survive and flourish.

“The light switch-on, in particular, can be seen as a symbol of hope.”

The ceremony takes place at 5.30pm at the town hall.
