The town prides itself on having the best Christmas lights in the region and this year is no exception.
The spectacle uses around 380 Christmas trees and 400 strings of lights comprising nearly 50,000 LED bulbs.
The crowds were welcomed by town mayor Martin Crane and the lights were switched on by Lt Col Stefan Crossfield of 6 Close Support Battalion, REME.
This was followed by carols outside the town hall.
