Lib Dems victorious in Greenham by-election

Candidates elected on just over 10% turn out

The Liberal Democrats have secured two more seats on Greenham Parish Council.

Lindsey Middlemiss and Paul Walter (pictured) have become parish councillors after sweeping aside their Labour opponents in yesterday's (Thursday) election.

Mrs Middlemiss, who volunteers with a number of local organisations, a local school governing body and West Berkshire Action for Refugees, secured 329 votes.

Mr Walter, a community councillor for seven years and who is involved with local charities, won 304 votes.

Labour's two candidate's, Alex Keegan and Nick East, secured 128 votes between them.

Mr East won 71 votes while Mr Keegan, the writing name of Ronald Jones, won 57 votes.

The turn out was 11.6 per cent, meaning that 399 people out of an electorate of 3443 voted.

Four votes were rejected for being unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty.

The by-election was triggered following the resignation of two parish councillors.
