Liberty Ballroom praised by star turn

The ballroom at New Greenham Park hosted a new salsa dance party night on Saturday

THE LIBERTY Ballroom venue for a new salsa dance party night was praised as one of the best around by the star turn on Saturday night.

The ballroom at New Greenham Park, was full of salsa dancers, who at the start of the evening took part in classes in salsa dance for both beginners and the more experienced. There was also the chance to learn Kizomba – the national dance of Angola – before taking to the floor.

The highlight of the evening was a spectacular midnight salsa dance showcase by Gilberto Prado Mendez and his wife Shelley Cook de Prado of Paxava Dance Company, who are highly experienced on the international stage.

Shelley, dressed in a stunning red salsa costume, wowed the crowd with her fast and smoothly-executed multiple spins.

Having taught and performed at major salsa festivals across Europe and beyond, she returned to her London home base full of enthusiasm for the Liberty Ballroom.

“It's one of the best facilities I have danced at,” she said.

The next salsa party night at the Liberty Ballroom will be on Saturday April 2, with salsa classes from 8pm, dancing until 2am and the opportunity to learn the cha cha cha, at a cost of £10.
