Licensees bid farewell to The Globe Inn, Newbury

The current licensees will be leaving a Newbury pub next year.

Colin and Katie Martin have confirmed they will be parting with The Globe Inn on Bartholomew Street – which they have run since 2019 – once its lease ends in May.

After months of negotiations, the couple confirmed they will not be signing a new contract with Heineken.

Posting on social media, they wrote: “It became apparent very quickly they care more about profit than people, and that goes against everything we stand for.

“So, it’s time to call it on our relationship with them.”

They added this decision is not financially motivated and will not impact the immediate future of the pub.

The pub, formerly the Snooty Fox, dates back to 1875 and previously received a £330,000 refurbishment to give it a contemporary look, which included exposing the original timber flooring and brickwork.
