Life saving lessons at town hall
St John Ambulance shows how to save lives in free lessons at town hall today (Saturday)
NEWBURY's MP, Richard Benyon and the Mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck (Con, Clay Hill) joined scores of others for free lessons in first aid at the town hall in Newbury today (Saturday).
Volunteers from St John Ambulance showed how basic knowledge of first aid could save lives, keeping a potentially fatal situation under control until an ambulance arrives.
The one-hour sessions taught skills such as what to do if a person has a serious cut to an arm or leg, what to do if someone is found unconscious or how to act if a person is not breathing.
St John volunteer commander for West Berkshire, Sharon Johnson, said: “Knowing first aid is vitally important. Potentially, it could help you to save a life if you are on your own when something terrible happens.”
She added that anyone who wanted training should visit the St John Ambulance website at www.sja.org.uk.
