Life saving volunteers appeal for recruits

Volunteers at the St John Ambulance adult unit in Newbury and Thatcham attend public events to provide first aid and also help train other people in the community.
They are asking for more local people aged over 18 to get involved.
Full training is provided free of charge, and a range of volunteer roles will be available including first aider, youth leader or logistics support through flexible volunteering.
Area manager, Andrew Frost, said: “It’s a chance to learn the skills that can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. You get the chance to visit lots of different places through providing first aid at a range of events, from a local fete to national events such as the London Marathon.
“Many volunteers say being part of St John Ambulance has changed their life – it’s a way to develop your own interests, learn new skills, meet new people and visit new places, as well as putting something back into the community.
“Learning how to save a life is one of the most important things anyone can do.”
The unit meets every Tuesday from 7.45pm to 9.30pm at the Frank Hutchings Community Hall, Bradley Moore Square, Thatcham.
If you are interested in applying to be a volunteer at your local unit, visit www.sja.org.uk to see what roles are available or call 0303 003 0101.
