Lifelong learning forum comes to Thatcham town
The demonstrations will let residents sample a variety of learning opportunities on offer locally, whether it is to improve their job prospects or just to learn for fun or a hobby.
The Thatcham Lifelong Learning Forum was formed in response to a recent survey of local residents conducted by Thatcham Vision.
In the survey, 77 per cent of residents who expressed a preference said they wanted more adult learning opportunities in Thatcham.
The week of events will start with a day of exhibitions and demonstrations on the Broadway tomorrow (Sat).
The chairwoman of Thatcham Lifelong Learning Forum, Jean Battle, said: “It is very important that Thatcham has a comprehensive set of adult education services covering a wide range of residents’ needs.
“People of all ages and backgrounds can gain huge benefits from continued active learning throughout their whole life. Adult Learners’ Week is a great way for Thatcham to benefit from a national event that will promote all forms of learning.”
Free demonstrations and tasters in the Broadway will include acrylic painting demonstrations with Armadillo images, Matt Fiddes Martial Arts, and Newbury College, which will be offering free taster sessions and food tasting by Waitrose experts.
Further free taster sessions will be available throughout Adult Learners Week provided by groups including The Watermill theatre, the library service and Orchard Health.
Details will be published on the group’s facebook page,
