Motorists driving in dark at A4/A340 roundabout and parts of Theale after power outage

People have been walking and driving in the dark after a recent power outage in parts of Theale.

A number of the streetlights in The Green and at the A4/A340/The Green roundabout have been without power for more than a week.

Local councils are typically responsible for installing and maintaining streetlights.

West Berkshire Council said it is working with its contractors to restore power as quickly as possible.

It also confirmed the cause of the issue adding: “This outage is due to extensive damage to the main feeder pillar caused by a recent road collision on the A4 (Bath Road) roundabout.

“We urge pedestrians and cyclists to exercise extra caution in the area, as visibility is reduced.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we address this matter.”

At budget talks last year, the council proposed to turn off streetlights in residential roads between midnight and 5am to save £50k a year.
