Lion's share of rewards for Thatcham young leaders
Voluntary work rewarded
THATCHAM teenagers have been recognised for their voluntary work in helping Girl Guides and Brownies in the town.
The Lions’ Club of Newbury’s youth chairperson, Diana Merchant, presented the Girl Guide’s four young leaders with the Lions’ International Young Leaders in Service Awards (YLiS)
The four young leaders all live in Thatcham and belong to the Kennet Vale Guiding Association and recently completed a year’s service to their Guiding community.
Three of them gained the Lions’ YLiS Gold award for completing 100 hours of service in one year.
Becca Stewart worked with the 3rd Thatcham Brownies; Shoshana Pryor, aged 17, worked with the 2nd Thatcham Brownies and Freja Goode, aged 15, worked with the 7th Thatcham Brownies.
Hannah Campbell, aged 15, gained her silver award for 50 hours spent helping to run the 4th Kennet Vale Rainbows, the Kennet School parent teacher association disco and a quiz.
The certificates were signed by the Lions’ international president from Japan and Newbury Lions’ president Ian Pearson.
The Young Leaders in Service scheme can be started by young people aged from 11 to 18 years old and run for a year.
