Live cooking at Newbury market this weekend

Visitors will be offered money-saving tips and be able to sample recipes on Sunday

PEOPLE are being given the chance to learn how to save up to £50 off their monthly food shop at Newbury Farmers Market this Sunday (19).

From 8am till 2pm visitors to the Market Place will be shown how to make the most out of their food with easy recipes being cooked live with the option to sample the food that has been made.

It is hoped the event will encourage people to reduce waste food and money.

West Berkshire's executive councillor for the environment, Hilary Cole (Con, Chieveley) said: "We are committed to helping show residents how delicious dinners can be created from leftover food."

West Berkshire Council and their recycling and waste contractor, Veolia Environmental Services, have teamed up with Newbury Farmers Market in order to kick start their ‘Love Food, Hate Waste' road shows for the summer.

Tracey Reilly, general manager for Veolia in West Berkshire, said: “Our ‘Love Food, Hate Waste' campaign aims to encourage residents that by being aware of the food we throw away and learning to put it to good use, we can all see some money saving benefits in return from our shopping bills.”
