Lloyds Bank in Thatcham to close in August

Lloyds Bank in Thatcham is due to close permanently on August 24.

The branch, which sits in the Kingsland Centre, is one of 28 branches to close across the UK.

This will be the last bank to leave Thatcham after the Barclays branch closed in 2020, NatWest in 2018 and HSBC in 2016.

The Newbury Lloyds Bank on Bridge Street remains open and is the closest alternative branch.

It is 3.37 miles away from the Thatcham branch and takes around 25 minutes to reach via bus.

The closure comes after Lloyds Bank's "in-depth review" of the Thatcham branch customers and how they bank.

Around 80 per cent of Thatcham branch customers have also used other Lloyds Bank branches, internet banking or PhoneBank with around 51 per cent of personal customers using other Lloyds Bank branches.

The review also found that 22 per cent of personal customers have also used the Post Office.

Lloyds Bank said: "Like many other high street businesses, we’ve seen people using our branches less frequently in recent years as more customers choose to do most of their everyday banking online.

"We’re responding to the way our customers use our branches. We’ll continue to invest in our branch network, but we have to make sure our branches are where customers need and use them most.

"As a result, we've made the difficult decision to close this branch because customers are using it less often. In addition the majority of customers are also using alternative ways to bank."

It said: "You can use any of our branches and our nearest alternative is the Newbury branch. You can also use a Post Office® for your everyday banking."

Following engagement with the local community, an overview of the feedback will be published in a second 'Closing Branch Review', which will be available at least two weeks before the closure.
