Local bands party on the hill




Liddington charity event promoted by the Royal British Legion in aid of the Poppy Appeal

SEVERAL local bands will be performing as part of a big community event in Wiltshire to raise money for the Royal British Legion's poppy appeal.

Party on the Hill will be held on Saturday, at Liddington, just off the B4192 between Swindon and Aldbourne.

During the event there will be there will be a spectacular aerial dogfight between a Spitfire and a Messerschmitt and the 1812 Overture will be played live with real field guns taking part.

After dark, the Second World War searchlights will come into their own to provide a display.

Throughout the day, 12 musical acts, some local, will be performing. They range from youthful heavy rock to young female solo, acoustic to electric, silver band to choral.

Local bands and groups playing will include Hungerford's The Demented, Aldbourne Band, Ramsbury School Choir and Ramsbury's village community choir – Bella Voce Choir.

Other acts performing include The Nashville Teens, Guitar Stools and Cigarettes, Meet the Martyns, who have written and will perform a special RBL 90th anniversary song and Echoes of Swing.

All this will be headlined by the chart-topping 70s band, The Wurzels, stars of Glastonbury 2010.

The gate opens at 10am; entry is £25 for adults, OAPs and children are £10, under 12s free. Tickets are available from www.HillParty.co.uk and on the gate.

There will also be fairground attractions, a fully licensed bar and stalls.
