Local business calls for rubber band recycling
Rubber bands are costing Royal Mail almost £3,000 each day
A THEALE-based solicitor has called on local businesses to recycle rubber bands, on the back of new figures which show the bands cost Royal Mail £2,840 a day.
Tony Roe, from Tony Roe Divorce and Family Lawyers, said it may seem a light hearted issue, but there was a serious litter and recycling issue at hand, as delivery workers get through two million red rubber bands every day.
“My firm, whose logo is a rubber band ball, periodically posts back a load for re-use, addressed to the ‘Rubber Band Monitor' at Thatcham sorting Office,” said Mr Roe, whose firm have recently expanded and moved to new offices next door to their original office in Brewery Court, Theale.
“We use those handy red metal post boxes as recycling bins. I would encourage others to do the same.”
The figures were released to the Daily Telegraph under the Freedom of Information Act, and showed that the amount the postal organisation spent on bands had increased by 40 per cent, almost £5 million, in five years.
