Woolton Hill dog owner triumphs at Crufts 2023

A Woolton Hill dog owner claimed a coveted best in breed prize at last weekend's Crufts dog show.

Vicky Clutterbuck and Lettuce wowed the judges at NEC Birmingham to hold off stiff competition, with Lettuce being crowned 2023's best Lhasa Apso on the famous green carpet.

Mrs Clutterbuck, who is a manager at Woolton Hill Pre-School, co-owns three-year-old Lettuce with the dog's breeder, Wendy Cain.

Mrs Clutterbuck said: "For me, it’s kind of what dreams are made of.

"I’ve been showing since I was nine, and I’ve been showing Lhasa Apsos for 10 years.

"To get to this level is just incredible. Lettuce has done far more than I ever, ever expected."

At last year's Crufts, Lettuce was awarded best bitch in breed, and she was the top winning Lhasa Apso the year before that in 2021.

Mrs Clutterbuck added: "It was absolutely amazing. I wasn’t expecting it so it was gobsmacking. There’s no other way to describe it.

"She is a champion, but to win at Crufts is another level."

Lettuce’s half-brother Lewis, aged just 18 months old, also took part in the famous dog show, and he came away with reserve best male in breed.

"It was a double whammy," said Mrs Clutterbuck.
