Local free runners in Newbury-based pop video
Flux Motion spend day filming in London for new single release
TWO former pupils of a Burghclere school who are part of a group of free runners recently helped make a video to accompany a new single by a Newbury-based pop group.
Former pupils of The Clere school, Ben Anthony, aged 17, and Jordan Curd, aged 16, both of Hurstbourne Tarrant, are part of the four-member free running group, Flux Motion.
Flux Motion, who practice four times a week in an Andover gym, and locally at various venues in Newbury, spent a day in London on June 24 filming for a video to co-incide with the July 27 release of the single ‘Take Over Radio', by Newbury R&B group, South Finesse.
"It was an amazing experience," said Jordan Curd.
Flux Motion's formation was the brainchild of their manager, Paul Coltman, a motor vehicle lecturer at Newbury
College, where Jordan studies motor vehicle repair and maintenance.
"Matt and MIke were already doing it and they all clicked - the ways they moved complemented one another," said Mr Coltman.
Despite having broken an elbow and a foot whilst free running - a form of urban acrobatics in which free runners use the landscape and buildings to perform stunts - Jordan remained undaunted.
"It takes a lot to put me off. It makes me try harder, I'm quite fearless," he said.
Ben, who is studying for a BTEC in sport at Queen Mary's College, Basingstoke, described his pastime as “street based acrobatics, using concrete, but with less flips than acrobatics and more movement, travelling from A to B,” adding that no expensive clothes or equipment were needed, just impact absorbing shoes.
Free running rose to prominence in England following the broadcast of the 2003 Channel 4 documentary Jump London,
featuring free runners vaulting, rolling, swinging and jumping from some of London's famous landmarks.
Flux Motion, whose other two members are trampolinist Matt Jones, aged 19, of Amesbury, and Mike Jones, aged 22, of
Whitchurch, a karate black belt, supported South Finesse on Saturday at the Vodafone Festival at Thatcham Football Club.
Prior to the performance last week, Ben said: "We've not seen the stage yet, but if it's flat we will do more floor work, using each other as ‘equipment' to flip off."
In May, Flux Motion also provided displays, using a buggy vehicle to perform flips and tricks off, during an open day at Newbury College.
