Thatcham man escapes chaser on ITV quiz show The Chase to win jackpot

It was a day of glory for one former Thatcham resident after scooping a share of £15,000 on ITV's quiz show The Chase.

Calum Maclean, who went to Kennet School, was part of a team of three who escaped chaser Shaun Wallace in yesterday (Tuesday) evening's show, taking home £5,000 each.

Mr Maclean, a retired police constable who now lives near Henley-on-Thames, raised £5k on his individual round.

In the final chase, his team had a headstart of three as they had three members and answered 16 questions correctly - with Mr Maclean responsible for 13 - giving quiz heavyweight Mr Wallace a target of 19 to catch.

The team were able to push the chaser back four times by answering questions he'd answered wrongly, including a key question on the director of The Terminator (James Cameron).

Mr Wallace fell two short in the end, securing Mr Maclean a share of the jackpot which, he said, would go towards 'stuff' for his daughter's wedding.

The chaser said: "I should have won that really - the answer that changed it was James Cameron."

Host Bradley Walsh added: "There you go, one question changed the dynamic of a final chase.

"What a titanic mistake."

The Chase is on at 5pm Monday to Friday on ITV.
