Local musicians all set for Newbury Youth Fest on Sunday
The free open air festival, which celebrates and promotes the youth of Newbury and the surrounding areas, will return to its home in Victoria Park.
One of the highlights of the day will be a set from the hugely popular Thatcham based group, The Mini Band.
The young rockers, who are all aged between 11 and 13 years, have received worldwide media attention including from the BBC, ITV and Sky, and also received a video response from Metallica praising them.
In 2012 they made it through to the grand final of Britain’s biggest music contest ‘Live and Unsigned’ playing at the O2 in London after beating over 10,000 acts and were subsequently invited on stage at Wembley Arena.
The band have over 33 million views on YouTube, 56,000 fans on Facebook and have played some of Britain’s biggest venues.Headlining is Hatty Keane who supported JLS last year on their Farewell Tour and has been seen this year performing with Rudimental and Ellie Goulding.
Local girl Emma Lawrence, who saw her first single go straight into the Top 40 charts at number 34, will be another big name to perform.
One act on the Waitrose Community Stage will be Jenny Bracey – an 18-year-old singer-songwriter from Lambourn who has been performing around the south west for the past three years.
Aiden Reid, a 14-year-old singer-songwriter from Newbury, will be among the acts to sing on the Parkway Acoustic Stage.
Many local businesses will also be in attendance to provide demonstrations and offer the chance to discuss future career options.
Giant Dream Catchers and a supersized Twister Game will also allow people to get involved on the day.
Although the festival is free a team of Royal British Legion members will be making a collection on the day in aid of the Poppy Appeal coinciding with the First World War Centenary commemorations.
Gates open at midday and the event finishes at 8pm. Entry is from Parkway.
