West Berkshire and North Hampshire residents recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024
A number of people from West Berkshire and North Hampshire have received honours in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024, published yesterday (Friday) by the Cabinet Office.
The focus of this year’s list is those who have initiated a substantial change where it was needed, and developed innovative solutions that have had an immeasurable impact on the lives of thousands of people across the country.
Many are active community champions, innovative social entrepreneurs, pioneering scientists, passionate health workers and dedicated volunteers who have gone the extra mile.
Roger Dakin from Newbury has been appointed an MBE for the work he has done to support children with disabilities through the creation of innovative technology.
The 75-year-old is the founder of Smile Smart Technology Ltd, a voluntary enterprise providing solutions and products for assistive technology.
His products have also been used by patients with serious injuries to communicate with clinicians in a hospital environment.
Grant Rogers is another Newbury resident who was appointed an MBE.
He is a crown court manager for the Crown Prosecution Service and he was honoured for his services to law and order.
Camilla Oldland has been appointed an OBE for her services to people with visual impairments.
She is the CEO of the Kingsclere-based non-profit organisation Living Paintings, which creates audio and tactile books for blind children and adults.
Hugh Oliver-Bellasis from Tadley was also appointed an OBE for his services to nature conservation and to the rural community.
He is the vice-president of the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust.
Melanie Hampton from Hungerford was appointed an MBE for her political service. She is the chair of the Carlton Political Committee.
