Compton pupils get stuck in for Community Volunteering Day
Staff from a London company have visited a West Berkshire school to volunteer their time.
BizSpace UK, headquartered in London, has committed to working specifically with a state school as part of its Community Social Responsibility programme.
Nine staff members donated their time and maintenance expertise to fix seating, paint fences, benches, sheds and refurbish doors and plant troughs across The Downs School, in Compton.
The school gratefully received the additional support, which enabled its team to focus on more pressing maintenance issues which invariably occur with more than 1,500 pupils and staff using the school daily.
“We are grateful to this team for their hard work and generosity,” said the school’s business manager, Rebecca Brophy.
“Giving time and expertise to a school is as vital as fundraising and donations, and we encourage our local community to join us for our DIY days if they wish.”
School marketing manager, Leela Bennett, added: “When businesses and corporations choose to work with state schools like us, the larger community benefits.
“Giving time and skill is one of the best gifts a community can give and ultimately, this gives our staff more time to focus on educating our students.”
BizSpace UK has supported more than 3,000 businesses at over 70 locations nationwide by creating customised, flexible workspaces for more than 20 years.
