A pain support group is hosting an open event at Shaw House next month to teach people about the theories and facts behind long Covid.

Organised by the West Berkshire Fibromyalgia Support Group, the talk on the long-lasting effects of coronavirus will be led by a lead consultant and specialist in fibromyalgia and chronic pain, Dr Deepak Ravindran.

Elizabeth, a member of the support group who suffers from fibromyalgia, has told of her struggles coping with long Covid, along with the chronic pain condition.

The talk will take place at Shaw House on the evening of Monday, June 13

She said: “In November 2020 I had Covid which affected my alimentary canal and now I have difficulty breathing and digesting food. Life has got more difficult and meal times are a trial, not an enjoyment.”

However, since joining the West Berkshire Fibromyalgia Support Group, Elizabeth said she had learned so much about the condition and how to deal with the pain that comes with it.

She has been in contact with Dr Ravindran who put her in touch with the Integrated Pain and Spinal Service, which runs an informative and interactive pain management course.

She added: “My life is now all about pacing myself and sometimes I get it right but feel old before my time.”

The long Covid talk will take place on the ground floor of Shaw House on Monday, June 13 between 7pm and 9pm. Refreshments will be available from 6pm for those who come early.

The event is free, but those who wish to attend must email westberks.fibromyalgia@gmail.com to reserve their seat.
