Long traffic delays in Newbury expected

Road closures from today (Friday) as final leg of Parkway works start

MOTORISTS could be in for long traffic delays in the coming weeks as several roads are due to be closed while the finishing touches are put to the Parkway shopping development.

From today (Friday) until Monday (October 10) Park Way will be closed to all traffic to allow block paving to be installed on a section of road on the north side of bridge.

Drivers wanting to use Camp Hopson's car park will be able to reach it by driving over Park Way Bridge, which will be under manual traffic control from Wharf Road on the south side of the canal.

Northbrook Street will be closed to traffic between Sunday, October 16 and Tuesday, October 18, to enable the resurfacing of the pavement around the East Street entrance to Parkway with block paving.

Scenes of chaos were seen in Newbury on Tuesday (4) as drivers trying to manoeuvre their way in and around the town found themselves caught up in heavy traffic jams because of roadworks.

West Berkshire Council's highways teams were replacing gully covers and frames in three separate locations along the A4 London Road - one outside the Toby Carvery and two on the opposite side of the road on the slip road onto the A339 - and so several temporary lane closures were in place.
