Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire appoints seven new Deputy Lieutenants
The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire has appointed seven new Deputy Lieutenants for the county.
The role of the Deputy Lieutenants is to support the Lord Lieutenant, James Puxley, in his wide-ranging work as His Majesty’s personal representative in Berkshire.
Four of the seven new deputies are involved in life across West Berkshire.
Sue Roberts is a founding trustee of Thatcham-based disabled children’s charity Swings and Smiles.
She is heavily involved in fundraising for many local charities such as West Berkshire Mencap, Newbury Soup Kitchen, Launchpad and No.5 Youth, as well as national organisations including the Bobby Moore Cancer Fund, Sue Ryder, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Beating Bowel Cancer.
Mark Sanderson works with Guide Dogs for the Blind, which has had one of its main offices in Burghfield for many years.
Mr Sanderson leads UK-wide on the charity’s wide-ranging services for children, young people and families affected by vision impairment as assistant director CYPF.
Rohit Tanna is both a trustee of the Rotary Club of Pangbourne Charitable Trust and a member and secretary of the club itself.
He ran his own dental practice in Reading from 1978 until he retired in 2010.
Dr Stefan Fafinski is a trustee of the Hermitage-based Priors Court Foundation, which exists to transform the lives of young people with complex autism and the Inside Out Trust (Berkshire Care Trust), which supports ex-offenders under the supervision of the probation services in the county.
Dr Fafinski is also an experienced and accomplished public lawyer who sits as a Berkshire Family Magistrate.
The other three new deputy lieutenants include Judge Tanweer Ikram, chair of Berkshire Magistrates Chris Juden and A.B. Walker and Son Funeral Directors owner and manager Julian A.B. Walker.
Mr Puxley said: “I am delighted to welcome these seven new Deputy Lieutenants. I send congratulations to them all on being awarded this honour and I look forward to working with them in the coming months.”
