Lorry bursts into flames in Aldermaston

A LORRY carrying 350 litres of fuel in its tank burst into flames in Aldermaston today (Tues).
Firefighters from both the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) at Mortimer and the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at Tadley were sent to the incident on Rag Hill at 11.13am.
A spokesperson for the RBFRS, Ellie Gray, said that when crews arrived the cab of the lorry was “well alight” and added that firefighters used breathing apparatus, two hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the lorry - which was 80 per cent destroyed.
Thames Valley Police closed Rag Hill and the adjoining Spring Lane for several hours while the clean up and recovery of the vehicle took place.
The Highways Agency were also at the scene on Tuesday afternoon to clear up the spillage.
No one was hurt in the fire and it is not being treated as suspicious.
