A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy, who was involved in a crash with a lorry in Newbury on Thursday (4) evening, is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
Police were called to the scene on London Road at 8pm after the boy, who was on a bicycle, had been involved in the incident with a blue Iveco lorry.
He was taken by ambulance to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital where he was treated for cuts to his head.
Police spokesman, Adam Fisher, confirmed today (Monday), that the boy was expected to make a full recovery.
The road was sealed off from the Robin Hood Roundabout to Hambridge Road with the westbound lane being re-opened at 9.40pm and the eastbound lane being re-opened at 9.52pm.
Member of staff at the BP garage, in London Road, Lisa Richardson, said that a police van, three police cars and an ambulance attended the scene.
She said: “We were busy and then completely dead – there was no one on the forecourt.
“It was quite worrying until the policeman had told us what had happened.
“When we found out it was a little boy I was a bit shell shocked.
“I really didn't know what to think.”
Trainee receptionist at the Newbury Manor Hotel, Stacey Harless, said that several guests walked to the scene to try and find out what had happened but they were turned away by the police.
However, she said that when she found out the road had been closed it rang alarm bells for her.
She said: “I was a little bit worried [when I found out someone was hurt] but I was quite disgusted when I found out it was a boy.”
She said that the road closure had caused a few problems when they had to find alternative routes for their late check-ins to use.
