According to Phil Knight, the watch manager of White Watch at Newbury Fire Station, two pumps were called at 2am from Newbury, together with the heavy rescue unit from Tilehurst, in Reading, to the East Ilsley junction northbound.
The driver had to be cut out of the lorry, whilst being cared for by paramedics at the scene and was then taken to hospital.
One lane was closed during the incident.
Fire services left the scene after an hour.
