Lots in store for Sport Relief
Staff urge customers to join in
STAFF at Sainsbury’s Newbury are encouraging local shoppers to support Sport Relief 2016.
A number of fundraising events will be taking place at the local store over the next month, including a hamper raffle, tombola, bake-off, penalty shoot-out and the sale of charity scratchcards.
Merchandise including T-shirts, wristbands, softballs and yo-yos, is now available in store with all profits going to Sport Relief.
During the last Sport Relief campaign in 2014 the store raised more than £8,000 and staff hope to top that amount this year.
Store manager Andrew Major said: “We’re looking forward to seeing our colleagues and customers get involved in Sport Relief this year. Not only are there going to be some fun events, but there’s the opportunity to raise money for a fantastic cause. We have a fantastic array of merchandise on sale and there are lots of ways for people to get involved locally”
Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games are taking place from Friday, March 18, to Sunday, March 20, and people are being urged to walk, run, swim or cycle at more than 1,000 locations across the UK, to raise money for Sport Relief.
Local sports events are taking place at Northbrook Leisure Centre and Bucklebury Farm Park.
Of all the money raised by the public through Sport Relief, half is used to make a difference in the UK, while the other 50 per cent goes towards transforming lives across the world’s poorest communities.
