Events at Newbury Showground, narrowboat trips, lamb feeding and more
THERE is a lot going on in West Berkshire today (Sun). Why not make the most of this warmer spring weather?
The All About Dogs show is open at Newbury showground with lots of canine-based activities on offer, including entertaining demonstrations, have a go games and competitions.
You could enter the cutest puppy parade, for pooches aged between six and 12 months. All puppies will receive a rosette and a certificate for participating.
Parking is free and dogs are allowed on leads. Child tickets cost £5 and adults and OAPs £9 on the gate.
Also at the Newbury Showground is the All About Gardening show, featuring a variety of trees, shrubs, flowers and pot plants which green-fingered enthusiasts can explore, as well as ornaments, water features and more.
There will be a number of stands in the shopping villages and indoor shopping marquees offering the latest product launches and useful gardening tools, gadgets and plants at special event prices.
In the craft and gift pavilion, visitors can pick-up homewares, crafts and gifts including handcrafted jewellery, metal work and artwork created in Berkshire.
There will also be a food and drink festival offering cheeses, meats, fine wines, pickles, chutneys and more.
The giant Easter egg hunt continues in Newbury town centre. Collect your entry form from either Newbury Visitor Information Centre or The Easter Zone in Parkway Shopping Centre and then follow the trail of clues to find the giant eggs, decorated by some of the local primary schools and nurseries, and work out the caption from the egg code letters.
Entry forms can be collected from 10am daily and need to be returned by 4pm. The last date to return is Sat 18th, by 4pm.
Return your entry form to the Parkway unit for your chance to win some fantastic prizes including a £250 John Lewis at Home voucher.
Head to Basildon Park for a walk among its beautiful spring bluebells and buttercups. Cream teas are available, or you could opt to follow one of the waymarked trails through the 400 acres of historic parkland.
Normal admission charges to the park apply, starting at £7.20 for an adult, £3.60 for a child and £19 for a family ticket.
Beale Park is offering an eggs-tra special Easter trail. All you have to do is complete the trail, hand it into the Park's restaurant to receive an Easter treat.
It costs 50p to take part in the trail. Normal admission costs to the park apply.
Archery Sessions will also be available at Beale Park. Participants must be at least 1.1m tall. It costs £2 to take part on top of normal admission fees.
You still have a chance to feed some of the adorable lambs at Bucklebury Farm Park. Bottle feeding of the lambs takes place every two hours with the first session for our visitors to take part in starting at 10.15am.
Admission to the park costs £9.45 for adults, £8.45 for children and seniors, £7 for disabled customers and for carers accompanying them, and under two’s free. Family tickets cost £32.50.
The Kennet & Avon Canal Trust narrowboat the Jubilee sets sail again. Times for the trips are midday and 2pm, with each trip lasting approximately 75 minutes. It departs from Newbury Wharf outside the Teashop by the Canal.
Tickets are available from Newbury Visitor Information Centre at Newbury Town Hall, or by calling (01635) 30267 or by emailing tourism@westberks.gov.uk. If the VIC is closed, tickets will be available to purchase on the boat itself (if seats are available).
The Rose of Hungerford will also set sail from Hungerford wharf, for 1.5hour or 2.5hour trips, with tickets also available from the Newbury Visitor Information Centre.
Between 3pm and 5pm, West African djembe drumming workshops will be available at ACE Space Newbury, Saint Nicholas' Road.
This workshop is suitable for all ages but is aimed at Adults primarily. I do also teach children, in schools or at Weekend Community Events.
The difficulty level is Beginner to Intermediate and aims to instil in EVERY session a fun mixture of Joy, Uplifting Energy and Discipline.
