Lots to keep the family entertained today (Sat)
The first of this year’s annual open days at the Roman site Calleva Atrebatum, in Silchester is taking place, at which children will have the chance to dress up and take part in a mini-excavation, while tours and talks by the experts will also be on offer.
The open day is free of charge and takes place from 10am to 4.30pm. Refreshments are available.

Guide Dogs in Reading is holding its annual fun day from 12pm to 5pm at the Microsoft’s Campus on Thames Valley Business Park.
With free entry, guests will be able to meet guide dogs, puppies, see dog agility displays and Guide Dog demonstrations, take a challenge in a blindfold and, experience sight loss in Guide Dogs’ sensory tunnel.
There will also be a 'Go Walkies' for you and your pet dog as well as refreshments and live music from local bands and a childrens' area.
A day of retro racing is also on the cards at The Racecourse Newbury.
Tickets cost £20 for grandstand and £30 for premier enclosure, and guests are being asked to fashion vintage outfits based on the 1950's and 1960's.
The best dressed could also see themselves scopping a prize in the style competition.
Gates open at 11am, with the first race at 1:05pm and the last at 5pm.
At 2pm, Alworth's new playground at the village hall is being officially opened by Lord Illife.
Parents and children alike are being invited to come along to use the new equipment, with some refreshments available.
As darkness begins to fall, Northbrook Street and the Market Place will be transformed into a summery ocean in the latest display, entitled Peixos, organised by the Corn Exchange.
Spectators can watch as colourful aquatic creatures, schools of darting tropical fish and luminescent jellyfish dance above the crowds.
This event is free to attend, and begins at 9:45pm.
