Lower Way to remain closed until Wednesday, said council

The road will remain closed to all traffic, between Derwent Way and Heron’s Way, until Southern Gas Network has fixed the problem.
A spokesman for West Berkshire Council, Keith Ulyatt, said today (Thurs) that the road will remain closed until next Wednesday.
The gas main was damaged during scheduled road resurfacing works which have been ongoing for the past two weeks, and have seen Lower Way closed between 9:30am and 4pm.
Mr Ulyatt said the damaged pipe should have been at least half a metre below the road’s surface but was in fact just 10cm below the surface.
A spokeswoman for Southern Gas Networks, Anne Neilson said: "Our gas main was damaged by a road planer carrying out some resurfacing works for the local authority.
"There was no danger to the public or loss of gas supplies as a result.
"Our engineers were on the scene quickly and are working to renew the damaged section of pipe. This may take a few days to complete."
Mr Ulyatt added that diversions are currently in place and that resurfacing work was unlikely to start again until after next week.
