'Lucky escape' for driver following collision on the M4
"The boot was practically touching the drivers headrest," says firefighter
FIREFIGHTERS have said that a man was "very lucky" to escape a collision on the M4.
Crews from Newbury were called to the scene on the eastbound carriageway between Chieveley and Theale at around 9pm.
When they arrived they found the wreckage of a Seat Ibiza (pictured) which had been involved in a collision with a lorry.
Firefighters made the area safe while paramedics removed the male driver of the Seat from the vehicle and took him to hospital.
Crew manager Stephenson said: "He was very lucky, the boot was practically touching the drivers headrest."
Firefighters left the scene after an hour and later that evening were called to Highclere Castle.
"Fortunately it was just a false alarm," Mr Stephenson said.
