'Lucky escape' for motorists in A339 accident this morning (Sunday)

Emergency services were called to the scene this morning after a car traveling on the southbound carriageway collided with a road sign between the Robin Hood roundabout and the Bear Lane roundabout.
Newbury resident Paul Walter said: "By the look of it, a 4x4 and another large car were involved.
"Somehow the 4x4 got a sign pole straight through the windscreen but looked like a lucky escape.
"Walking wounded being treated by the ambulance staff on the pavement."
And another witness, Chris Graham, contacted Newbury Today saying that the sign had gone straight through the windscreen of the 4x4 and out of the rear passenger window.
Mr Walter added that traffic had been backing up on the A339 over the railway bridge, while nearby roads were also clogged up.
All lanes have re-opened.
