M4 shut between Junctions 15 and 16 near Swindon due to a police incident
UPDATE: The incident has now been resolved.
There are long tailbacks on the M4 towards Junction 14 (Hungerford) as a result of the closure of the motorway by Wiltshire police.
Wiltshire police have closed the M4 in both directions between Junctions 15 and 16 and diversions have been set up.
National Highways is reporting queues of up to 50 minutes with tailbacks beyond Hungerford (Junction 14).
Wiltshire Police have asked drivers to avoid the area if possible 'while officers deal with an incident on an overbridge in Swindon'.
Eastbound diversions are signed by the hollow circle symbol on local road signs and are via the A3102 and A4259.
Westbound diversions are signed by the hollow triangle symbol on local road signs and are via the A4259 and A3102.

7.30pm UPDATE - Wiltshire Police have said that the incident has been 'brought to a safe conclusion'.
They are now working alongside Highways to reopen the M4 as 'swiftly and safely' as possible.
